Cal State East Bay’s RSCA Support Mini Grant provides funding to support travel, publication and other costs for faculty involved in research, scholarship, and creative activities. The maximum award is $2,000 and must be spent within FY 2025-26.

Key Dates
Mike Kusiak serves as the Director of Grant Administration in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. In this role, he supports faculty and staff in developing and submitting proposals to external funders and ensures that Principal Investigators have the tools, guidance, and infrastructure needed to successfully manage their funded projects.
He brings over two decades of experience in research administration, policy, and higher education leadership, including roles at UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, and the UC Office of the President. At UC, he led systemwide initiatives in research policy development and strategic partnerships, and he is a recognized national leader in federal research policy spaces.
He has also been actively involved with the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR), the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP), the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), and the Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI).
Mike, his wife, and two sons live in Castro Valley—just down the street from Cal State East Bay—where he is an elected Trustee for the Castro Valley Unified School District. As a Trustee, he helps oversee a $140 million public school system and guide district strategy in partnership with the Superintendent and community. He has also been deeply active in civic life, including launching the "Castro Valley Stands United Against Hate" poster campaign, which was featured by KQED:
CSUEB now has a policy that permits compensation in the form of an incentive for participants in human subjects research. Research participant incentives may be paid to current CSUEB students and people who are non-CSUEB students or employees. CSUEB employees may not be paid a research participant incentive. Student incentives are paid in the form of a credit to a student's University Student Account. Incentives for people who are not CSUEB students and employees may be paid in the form of a gift card.
